When is that new movie coming to DVD?

For those visitors new to VideoTropic: This list compiles word that we receive from the studios on when movies currently in theatrical release are being prepped for video; generally, we first hear shortly after opening weekend. Like television schedules, these are subject to revision as each studio sees what other studios are planning; but because an exact release Tuesday has not yet been signed off on those titles appearing here without parenthetical dates, we aren't yet including them on our Upcoming Titles pages. Titles and dates in red are new to the list.

June Horror: Expect the DVD releases of Slither and Disney's (!) Stay Alive, along with The Shaggy Dog (which couldn't have been more of a horror film if Lindsay Lohan was in it).  ATL, Larry The Cable Guy, and She's The Man will also likely street in one of the year's slowest DVD months. Things will pick up in August with V For Vendetta (and if sales are strong, expect a double-dip Collector's Set for the week of the Fifth of November), Scary Movie 4, Lucky Number Slevin, the derivative Take The Lead, and the inexplicable American Dreamz. September will see Hard Candy (a twist on Audition), the Sentinel remake, and one or two early-summer blockbusters; more on that in a few weeks.

This VideoTropic feature is your electronic bug in the conference rooms of the studios, where we let you in on what release dates the studios are planning for those big movies still in the theaters -- usually months before an official studio announcement.

Sahara

"For those looking to be won over by a new action star in the same vein as such MIA Hollywood icons as James Bond and Indiana Jones, keep looking, but Dirk Pitt (Matthew McConaughey) is a nice substitute for the time being..."
